"The kingdom of God is more important than my rights and my freedom to do what I want. The gospel is more important than my personal honor or dignity. Paul once said that he would rather put up with anything than hinder the gospel of Christ. That should be our attitude as well. So Paul says [that] even if your master or we could say even if your employer does not honor you, you're to honor them as worthy of full respect. Now, just to be clear, I'm not saying that we should let ourselves be mistreated or abused by anybody. What I'm saying, as Paul said, is that we should treat those with respect, even if others don't treat us with respect. When we're employees at work, when we're children at school, when we're spouses at home, whatever the situation, we should work our hardest for the good of others with a respectful attitude. And that's because respecting another person is much more about who you are than it is about who they are. Christians are people who show respect to everyone. Everyone. ... Love the family of believers. Fear God. Honor the emperor. Remember who the emperor was? Nero. Respecting and honoring someone doesn't mean that you agree with them on everything. Doesn't mean that you condone their behavior. It means that you value them and that you're attempting to treat them, to speak about them with the love of Christ. So if there's someone that you will not give respect to, whether it's your boss or your husband or wife or your parent or your sibling or the President of the United States or the President of the United States who was in office before him or whoever, then there is something off in your heart. There's the problem. Giving respect is more about the person you are than about the person they are.

"Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
