abideth for ever

Psalm 125:1

The text seems to say mount Zion will last forever, even though we know from other passages of scripture that the earth will be destroyed (Matthew 24:35) and a new earth created (Revelation 21:1). The Bible is 100% true, so the "problem" here is not with the text but with the interpretation. Upon closer examination of the verse, notice "which" is in italics, meaning it was not part of the original Hebrew but was added for clarity:
They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed,
So the "cannot be removed" and "abideth for ever" may better apply to "those that trust in the Lord" instead of the mountain. The New International Reader's Version (NIRV) translates it that way:
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion. They will always be secure. They will last forever.
Being even more loose with the translation, one could say: In the context of the physical universe, Mount Zion is strong and cannot be moved by human beings. It is also protected by God (verse 2) and will survive the Great Tribulation to become the place where Jesus reigns from during the Millenial Kingdom (Isaiah 24:23). Thus Mount Zion will exist as long as the physical universe exists. In the context of the spiritual world, believers that trust in Jesus - i.e., "those that trust in the Lord" - are strong because they trust in Someone Who is unchanging (Malachi 3:6). They are protected by God, both physically (Psalm 18:2) and spiritually (2 Thessalonians 3:3). Thus they will exist [like this] as long as God exists -- FOREVER. Amen!

If you have put your trust in your flesh and this mortal world, which will not and cannot last forever, I pray you will repent and put your trust in the Eternal God this day.
